22 - It is the end of the road for Celta Vigo, who had an arduous task ahead of their return leg against Freiburg. Having lost 3-0 in Germany the week before, Os Celestes could not turn things around, suffering a 3-1 reverse at home and a 6-1 aggregate defeat. Celta have been knocked out at this stage of the UEFA Cup/Europa League for the fourth time in their history, with the three goals conceded at Balaidos being the most they have let in at a European home match in 22 years.
2 - What a stunning pair of performances from Freiburg, who took their chances and were hard to break down as they pulled off another excellent result. While they were outshot 13-9, the Bundesliga team did not panic. They have now qualified for their maiden semi-final in UEFA club competition play, the only one of the teams left in the competition making such a debut. Thursday night's result was just the second time they have won the away leg of a two-legged tie.
12 - Like Freiburg, Aston Villa also managed to come out on top in both of their quarter-final ties. This time, it was an even more commanding performance as the Villans saw off Bologna 4-0 at Villa Park, prevailing 7-1 over the two legs. Four different players found the back of the net for a Villa side who make a second continental semi in their last three campaigns. It is quite a challenge to beat Villa at home in Europe, as the victory made it 12 without defeat in such games.
1 - Bologna's European journey has come to an end, having gone on an 11-game unbeaten run before they were outclassed by Villa. I Rossoblu have always enjoyed their time in the UEL/UEFA Cup, having made at least the quarters in three of their six appearances. It appears their Birmingham-based opponents are their kryptonite, having won all four head-to-heads. Bologna have lost both legs of a continental tie for the first time.
9 - After making the UEFA Conference League final last May, Real Betis seemed like they were about to make the semi-finals. Up 2-0 on the night against Sporting Braga, Los Verdiblancos suffered a collapse, letting in four unanswered to fall 4-2 in front of their fans. That knocked them out, with the aggregate score being 5-3 in the Portuguese side's favour. It is the third time Betis have lost at home in Europe despite scoring multiple times. In fact, they have now scored two or more goals in each of their last nine home games.
3 - Braga are now the only team left in the UEL to have reached the last four of the tournament under its current guise, completing an incredible comeback to stun their fellow Iberian opponents. The four goals scored by Os Arcebispos were the most they have ever managed in a knockout round away game. That sets up a semi-final against Freiburg - their first in 15 years - in what is a huge chance for both teams. Braga defeated a Spanish team for the third time on Thursday night, the other two successes coming against Sevilla.
14 - Morgan Gibbs-White's goal 12 minutes in proved to be sufficient for Nottingham Forest to beat Porto 1-0 at The City Ground, with the Tricky Trees advancing 2-1 overall. It will leave them playing in a fourth continental semi-final, and second in the UEFA Cup/Europa League. They did lose their previous one against Anderlecht back in 1984/85, and will hope for better luck in their all-English clash with Villa. Keeping a clean sheet proves to be vital in home games, as Forest's last 14 home wins in Europe saw them keep their opponent from scoring.
4 - Porto, who entered this season's competition as the only side to lift the Europa League trophy, fall at the last eight, which was their best run since 2013/14. The only two defeats they suffered this term came at the hands of Forest, with the red card to Jan Bednarek less than 10 minutes in proving quite costly. It will be back to the domestic league for Dragao now as they try to hold onto the lead there. They are now winless in their last four games against English sides (0-1-3).
