It has been a long time coming for fans following several near misses in recent times, when they went into the competition as the best team on the continent but fell frustratingly short.
That pain was put aside, though, after a triumphant campaign in which they were again the top team and this time delivered.
Here are the numbers behind their success.
0 – Sundowns remained unbeaten at home throughout the campaign (W6 D1). They maintained their remarkable record in Pretoria, having lost only three of 91 home games (W65 D23) in the competition since their debut in 1994.
2 – The competition win for Sundowns this season is their second in four final appearances. They lost the 2001 decider to Al Ahly, beat Zamalek in 2016 and then lost to Pyramids FC in 2025. This was the first time they had faced non-Egyptian opposition in the final.
2 – Sundowns received two red cards during the campaign. Aubrey Modiba was sent off against Stade Malien in the quarter-finals and Grant Kekana against Esperance in the semi-finals. Both came in away legs.

3 – It was third time lucky for Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso, who had lost the previous two finals. His Esperance side were beaten by Al Ahly in the 2024 decider, before Pyramids FC shocked Sundowns in 2025.
5 – Five players featured in all 14 games for Sundowns this season – right-back Khuliso Mudau, midfielders Teboho Mokoena and Marcelo Allende, winger Tashreeq Matthews and forward Arthur Sales.
5 – Colombian forward Brayan Leon finished as Sundowns’ top scorer in the competition this season with five goals in seven starts (and three substitute appearances) since joining the club in January. That made him the second-highest scorer in the competition behind Al Ahly’s Trezeguet, who netted six times.
6 – Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams kept six clean sheets in the 12 games he played. The highest in the competition was Stade Malien goalkeeper N'Golo Traoré, who managed eight clean sheets in 12 matches.
8 – Portuguese playmaker Nuno Santos recorded the most goal contributions for Sundowns this season with eight. He scored three goals and provided five assists for teammates, also the highest assist tally in the competition.

10 – Sunday’s 1-1 draw in the final means Sundowns are still yet to win a match in Morocco after 10 attempts. They have recorded four draws and six defeats.
14 – The team played 14 matches this season, winning eight, drawing four and losing two. Those defeats came against Al Hilal in the group stage and Stade Malien in the second leg of their quarter-final tie.
20 – Kutlwano Lethlaku was, for many, a surprise selection to start on the right wing for Sundowns in both legs of the final. At 20 years old, he is the youngest player to start a Champions League final for The Brazilians.
23 – The team scored 23 goals in 14 matches and conceded 10. Thirteen of those goals came at home and 10 away. They conceded only three times in seven home games.
40 – Veteran Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango was the oldest player used in the competition this season. He was 40 years, eight months and 15 days old when he featured in the 2-1 loss to Al Hilal in the group stage.
1,239 – Khuliso Mudau played the most minutes of any Sundowns player in this year’s competition, 11 more than second-placed Teboho Mokoena.
