The tournament between the top four-ranked European sides was perfect preparation ahead of the 2026 IIHF World Championship later this month, as both Sweden and Finland were without players still involved in their domestic campaigns.
Sweden had already thumped Switzerland 8-1 and beaten the Czech Republic 4-2, while Finland had been beaten narrowly by the Czechs, 3-2, before winning 5-3 against Switzerland. That meant Finland needed a five-goal win to deny the Swedes and win the tournament themselves.
They gave themselves a slim chance when they opened the scoring 16 minutes in through Eemil Erholtz, but the second period was dominant for Tre Kronor, who scored three unanswered goals courtesy of Liam Ohgren, Andre Petersson and Karl Henriksson to take control.
Leijonat hit back on the powerplay in the final minute when Roni Hirvonen ensured Henriksson's tripping didn't go unpunished, but by that point the tournament win was already belonged to Sweden, who held on in the final seconds to win 3-2 and take the maximum nine points.
Switzerland beat Czech Republic after penalites in the day's other match, meaning the hosts finished second on four points, one clear of Finland, while the Swiss finished bottom on two.
