The 2026 World Cup was held from June 11th to July 19th in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The tournament featured 48 national teams and was played in 16 modern stadiums.

22:10 BST - Iran showed impressive resilience once again to secure a 0-0 draw with 10-man Belgium in FIFA World Cup (WC) Group G, which saw them go unbeaten in the opening two games of the tournament for the first time.

They have played each other once in the World Cup in 2006, with Spain winning that match 1-0.
Unsurprisingly, Spain are overwhelming favourites to record another victory today in Atlanta.
15:40 BST - The teams are in for Spain versus Saudi Arabia, and the big news is Lamine Yamal starts for the European champions!
Yamal is one of four Spanish changes with Pedro Porro, Dani Olmo and Alex Baena also coming into the side.
Saudi Arabia have made a couple of changes themselves.
14:45 BST - Spain will be looking to notch their first win of the World Cup when they take on Saudi Arabia in Group H.
The reigning European champions were held to a shock 0-0 draw by Cape Verde in their opener, with Lamine Yamal limited to a cameo role from the bench.
Saudi Arabia are bidding to reach the knockouts for the first time since 1994.
12:29 BST - Japan laid down a marker as they thrashed Tunisia 4-0 in Group F to eliminate their opponents from contention in the 1,000th World Cup match in history.
Ayase Ueda scored twice in Monterrey after Crystal Palace's Daichi Kamada opened the scoring inside four minutes.

11:33 BST - Curacao made World Cup history overnight as the debutants held Ecuador to a 0-0 draw, recording their first ever point at the tournament.
Goalkeeper Eloy Room, 37, produced a performance for the ages, pulling off a record 15 saves, the most by any keeper in 90 minutes of a World Cup match since records began in 1966.
It keeps alive their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stage, despite a 7-1 opening defeat to Germany.
