The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are well and truly underway. On day three, five medals will be handed out. At Flashscore, we have picked out three main events you shouldn't miss: the women's snowboard big air, women's speed skating 1000m, and men's ski jumping - normal hill.

Women's speed skating 1000m

17:30 CET - Milano Speed Skating Stadium within the Milano Ice Park

Dutch speed-skating star Jutta Leerdam will head into the competition as the absolute favourite.

Already ahead of the Games, Leerdam, who is well known as the girlfriend of boxing sensation Jake Paul, created headlines when she was criticised for being 'arrogant' and acting like a 'diva' for travelling to the Olympics on a private jet instead of travelling to Italy alongside her fellow compatriots.

The 2026 Milano-Cortina Games will mark Leerdam’s second Olympic appearance. She earned the silver medal in women’s 1000 meters at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

Miho Takagi, who won the 1000m gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, is considered the main challenger to Leerdam. In January 2025, she won the 1000m in Calgary, often skating faster than Leerdam in direct, high-pressure matchups.

Also, Femke Kok, Leerdam's Dutch compatriot, could pose a threat to Leerdam's hopes of claiming the gold. Kok is a consistent podium finisher and has shown significant speed, finishing in the top three in the World Cup standings.

Men's ski jumping - normal hill

20:00 CET - Predazzo Ski Jumping Stadium in Predazzo

The men’s normal hill individual ski jumping event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina could end up as a new chapter in the Slovenian Prevc family's dominance within ski jumping.

Domen Prevc’s consistency on the World Cup circuit and strong performances in recent competitions have turned him into one of the biggest favourites to claim gold at the Winter Olympics.

However, Prevc is likely to face plenty of competition from Norway’s Marius Lindvik, who topped the leaderboard in the qualification ahead of the final event. Lindvik’s jump of 100.5m earned him 116.7 points and indicated he is in excellent shape coming into the medal rounds.

Japan’s veteran Ryoyu Kobayashi could also potentially play a big role in the final. Kobayashi, who for years has been a regular contender on the World Cup circuit, won the 2022 Winter Olympics ski jumping competition on the large hill and has the experience to handle the pressure of major championships.

Austria’s Jan Hoerl, another jumper with podium credentials in World Cup events, could also be a likely contender for the gold.

Women's snowboard big air final

19:30 CET - Livigno Snow Park

Austrian snowboard icon and two-time Olympic Big Air champion Anna Gasser will look to put the icing on the cake to cap off her extraordinary Olympic career by claiming the gold medal at her fourth and final Olympic Games.

New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott will head into the final eager to finally clinch the one Olympic big air medal missing from her collection, to add to her Beijing 2022 silver and bronze from PyeongChang 2018.

We are also likely to witness Japan’s depth in women’s big air in Livigno. Japanese athletes crowded the podium of the first World Cup competition of the season, with Fukada Mari taking first spot ahead of Iwabuchi Reira in second, while Beijing 2022 Olympic bronze medalist Murase Kokomo topped the podium ahead of Iwabuchi and Fukada at the 2025 World Championships.

Finally, British teenager Mia Brookes has also entered the spotlight at the Games and could suddenly emerge as a serious medal contender.
