Winner: Flamengo
Who else could be crowned this week but Flamengo? The Rio de Janeiro club held off Palmeiras to come out on top in the Copa Libertadores final and lift the trophy. A goal from Danilo in the 67th minute made this dream a reality.
Flamengo now boasts four titles, further cementing their status in the South American Championship. After a strong run in the Club World Cup this summer (reaching the round of 16, losing to Bayern 4-2), the team continues their journey with plenty to celebrate.
Loser: PSG
They came close to losing their spot at the top of Ligue 1. PSG travelled to Monaco for the 14th round of the league, confident of a good result. But things didn’t go as planned. Shaken by a determined Monaco side, the Parisians ended up conceding a crucial goal to Takumi Minamino.
As a result, the capital club left empty-handed and risked being overtaken by Olympique de Marseille. They were saved only because Marseille drew with Toulouse (2-2). Still, PSG’s performance serves as a warning ahead of their home game against Rennes next Saturday. Meanwhile, Lens took advantage and now sit atop Ligue 1.
Winner: Heidenheim
Heidenheim players experienced a dramatic finish against Union Berlin on Saturday. Trailing for most of the match, the visitors turned things around in stoppage time. Stefan Schimmer scored the first goal of the comeback in the 90th minute, and Jan Schoppner sealed the win in the 96th minute.
This victory lifts Heidenheim just one point clear of the relegation zone (8 points, 16th place), a crucial step in their fight for survival.
Loser: Verona
It’s a tough time for Verona. The Italian club started December in the worst possible way, suffering another defeat, this time against Genoa (2-1). The Gialloblu have yet to win a single match this season and are stuck at the bottom of the Serie A table in 20th place. A worrying situation for a team that finished 14th last year.
Winner: Viking FK
It was party time in Norway for Viking FK! The club defeated Valerenga 5-1 and finally claimed the national title after a 34-year wait. They managed to overtake Bodo/Glimt, thanks in large part to standout performances from Edvin Austbo, Martin Ove Roseth, Zlatko Tripic, Kristoffer Haugen, and Kristoffer Askildsen.
Loser: Troy Parrot
A tough blow for the AZ Alkmaar player. He stepped up against Twente on Sunday but failed to deliver in the dying moments. The Irishman had a chance to turn a potential 1-0 defeat into a draw, but couldn’t make it count. Facing the opposing goalkeeper, he attempted a panenka, but completely missed, sending the ball well over the bar.
Winner: Anderlecht
Anderlecht enjoyed a great success against Union Saint-Gilloise. The Mauves managed to get the better of their rivals and finally win the derby 1-0 - a feat they hadn’t achieved since April 14, 2024.
On top of that, Club Brugge lost their match this week, which moves Anderlecht up to third place in the Jupiler Pro League, just one point behind Brugge.
Loser: Fiorentina
Just like their rivals Verona, Fiorentina are struggling at the bottom of Serie A after 13 winless matches. La Viola suffered another defeat on Sunday, this time to Atalanta (2-0), and seem unable to find a way out of their slump. They are only ahead of Verona due to goal difference (-11 compared to -12), but the team is still in trouble.
