Sabalenka's imperious tiebreak record continues to become the US Open 2025 champion with a dominant 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) victory against Amanda Anisimova.
She becomes the first woman to retain he title since Serena Williams managed the feat in 2014.
Read more about her victory here.
23:45 CET - Well, this match has had just about everything, so why not add a tiebreak into the mix? The bad news for Anisimova is that Sabalenka has a monumental tiebreak record of 20-1.
23:38 CET - What just happened? Sabalenka just had to serve out the match and complete a routine win when Anisimova delivered some of her best tennis of the night, helped by a horrible missed volley by Sabalenka at 30-30.
5-5 and this match is anyone's guess now...
23:25 CET - Okay, this is getting silly. Sabalenka breaks back again as Anisimova drops her level once again after getting herself back into it. A final lacking quality, but Sabalenka won't care; she is closing in on victory now.
23:33 CET - What is going on in this match? The American levels the second set with a dominant break of serve in which she pulled some huge punches. Game on?
23:11 CET - Sabalenka is now in full control of this final as she breaks Anisimova to take a 2-1 lead in the second set. The Belurrisan has produced some immense defence and has played a smart, controlled game. She knows if she gets the ball back with some purpose, then Anisimova will make a silly and costly mistake.
22:55 CET - Anisimova has at times looked like the better player, but finds herself a set down after her game fell apart in the closing end of the opening set. The world number one is a set away from retaining her US Open title.
22:53 CET - Sabalenka has now taken control of the match and will serve for the first set next after forcing Anisimova into mistakes. Huge hitting from both players so far, Sabalenka is just finding more accuracy at the moment.
22:45 CET- Anisimova takes her eye off the ball quite literally in the next game, though, as a mistake-ridden service game costs her the slim advantage she had. 3-3.
22:40 CET - After getting a vital first hold of serve, Anisimova has broken Sabalenka for a second time to take a 3-2 lead. Anisimova is very much on top now, and when she gets it right, there is nothing Sabalenka can do; some of the hitting has been ridiculously huge.
22:33 CET - She has now! Anisimova bounces back with a break of her own after some unstoppable hitting and finding the line with pinpoint accuracy. Game on.
22:29 CET - Despite making a flying start in Sabalenka's service game, Anisimova is now a break down as the wait for her first game win in a Grand Slam final continues. Sabalenka defended brilliantly at times and pulled the trigger when necessary, reminding Arthur Ashe who the world number one is.
22:25 CET - Despite a devastating start from Anisimova, as her backhand causes Sabalenka all kinds of problems, Sabalenka just about holds serve.
The world number one faced multiple break points but held her nerve to get the 2025 final underway.
22:15 CET - The atmosphere inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium is electric with the roof closed; this final promises to be epic. The wait is over, the final is underway, at last.
22:05 CET - Okay, the pre-match show is done, and we can finally focus on the tennis.
The 2025 Women's US Open final is almost here... Can Sabalenka defend her title, or will Anisimova cause an upset and win in front of a loving home crowd?
20:35 CET - With less than two hours until the showpiece event, let's take a look back at how our two finalists made it here.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka, for the most part, cruised through her first two matches against unseeded players Rebeka Masarova and Polina Kudermetova. Although Masarova did take a shock first lead with a break of serve before Sabalenka kicked into gear.
Sabalenka passed her first big test of the tournament in the third round in convincing style as she defeated in-form and former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
The world number one would then barely break a sweat on her way to the semi-finals after a dominant win against Spain's Cristina Bucsa before getting a walkover against Marketa Vondrusova, who sadly was forced to withdraw from the tournament through injury.
That bye set up a box office semi-final against home player Jessica Pegula, and it lived up to the billing. Sabalenka came from a set down in front of a raucous American crowd to compose herself and win the second and deciding set ruthlessly.
World number nine and home-favourite Amanda Anisimova has had a slightly less straightforward run to the final, but arguably more impressive given the nature of her opponents.
Anisimova began her tournament with victories against two Australian players in the first two rounds, including a hard-fought win against emerging star Maya Joint. The eighth seed was forced to win in three sets for the first time by Jaqueline Cristian in a challenging third-round encounter, but she passed the test with flying colours in a dominant deciding set.
She would then lose just three games in a dominant fourth-round win against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia before stunning Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals.
The American bounced back from the Wimbledon final whitewash, where Swiatek beat Anisimova 6-0, 6-0, to avenge her demons brilliantly and win 6-4, 6-3. A statement victory.
Anisimova would face a revitalised Naomi Osaka in the semi-finals and come out of an epic three set battle victorious to book her place in tonight's final.
18:10 CET - Welcome back to the Tennis Tracker, as the US Open final is finally here! Today, the women take centre stage at Flushing Meadows.
Reigning champion Aryna Sabalenka is looking to become the first woman since Serena Williams in 2014 to retain her title here, but she comes up against home favourite Amanda Anisimova, who is eyeing her first major crown.
It feels like a big moment for Sabalenka. Despite being world number one and dominating the WTA Tour, she is yet to win a Slam this year, falling in the Australian Open and French Open finals, while losing in the last four at Wimbledon - to Anisimova.
She will be desperate to get her hands on a fourth Grand Slam title and have some reward for another big year.
For Anisimova, she has rebounded in truly extraordinary style after losing 6-0, 6-0 to Iga Swiatek in the Wimbledon final. She gained revenge over the Pole after beating her comprehensively in the quarter-finals in New York, and she now has a second bite of the cherry - but this time with more experience of playing in a major final.
Interestingly, she has a superior head-to-head record against Sabalenka, leading 6-3, including winning that thrilling last meeting at Wimbledon.
The crowd will also be on her side, and the atmosphere will be electric. It promises to be a spectacular occasion, with play getting underway at 22:00 CET.
