The US Open is now in its 145th edition, and each day of the last Grand Slam of the season throws up unique stories and duels. The Flashscore editorial team has picked out three of the most interesting matches on Monday's schedule.

Siniakova/Townsend - L. Fernandez/V. Williams

22:00 CET, Louis Armstrong Stadium

A really spicy doubles quarter-final clash! Katerina Siniakova is perhaps the best doubles player in the world in recent years, and has 10 women's doubles Grand Slam titles to her name. Additionally, her partner, Taylor Townsend, won both her Slam triumphs alongside Siniakova.

But on the other side of the court, she will face an even more successful doubles player. Venus Williams has four more trophies in her cabinet from doubles competitions, and the USA are all behind the 45-year-old's comeback.

Venus's teammate is with Leylah Fernandez, and the duo have formed a fine partnership.

Aryna Sabalenka - Marketa Vondrousova

01:00 CET, Louis Armstrong Stadium

Aryna Sabalenka is the world number one and will remain so after the New York event, but she hasn't won a single Grand Slam this year. She is the defending champion at the US Open and also has one last chance to make amends for the setbacks of 2025.

But Marketa Vondrousova is not one of those who will fear the Belarusian. Her clever and varied game has often paid off against Sabalenka, and the Czech has won four of the nine times they have played.

But Sabalenka has a better record on the hardcourts (4-1), having fended off 12 break points from the Czech last time out in Cincinnati.

Vondrousova, who is the 2023 Wimbledon champion, is playing as an unseeded player in New York this year, but she proved her quality with wins over both Jasmine Paolini and Elena Rybakina.

Novak Djokovic - Taylor Fritz

02:30 CET, Louis Armstrong Stadium

Taylor Fritz reached the final of the US Open last year and gave the USA hope that perhaps a home player could win this Grand Slam again soon (the last time it happened was with Andy Roddick in 2009). But this year, he has already been handed the tough test of the great Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals.

The truth is that they have faced off 10 times, and Djokovic has won every single time. Only Monfils (0-20), Chardy (0-14), Raonic and Seppi (both 0-12) have a worse record against Djokovic.

Fritz and Djokovic met in the quarter-finals of the New York Major two years ago, and the American won just nine games. Fritz knows he will have the crowd on his side, though, and believes he could beat the ageing champion this time.
