Holger Rune restored further morale in his faltering season when he booked his ticket to the quarter-final of the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo, where he won 6-4, 6-2 over Ethan Quinn. Rune will now face Jenson Brooksby, who beat Luciano Darderi 7-6 (9-7), 6-1.

Rune is currently 14th in world rankings, 1000 points behind eighth-placed Alex De Minaur, who currently holds the last ticket to the ATP finals in Turin.

Rune was happy about his performance against Quinn and said:

“I really sharpened my focus at the start of the sets. I tried to hit quickly, which makes me more comfortable. He is a good player and has some weapons, but it was about trying to take them away from him and play on my terms, and making fast starts made me feel better and made me relax more”, said Rune.

The Danish player is aiming to win his second title this year after claiming the win in the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona last April.
