Today marks the start of tournaments in Beijing and Tokyo, with Frances Tiafoe, Barbora Krejcikova and Denis Shapovalov among the standout names in first-round action.

17:04 CET - It hasn't been a great return to action for Bianca Andreescu, with the Canadian suffering a 6-4, 7-6(4) defeat to qualifier Anna Bondar in Beijing. Regardless, it is good to see her back after three months out with an injury.

14:46 CET - Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu is set to make her return in Beijing after suffering an injury in Montreal that has kept her out of action since July. She comes up against Anna Bondar in the next few minutes.

14:39 CET - Marie Bouzkova and Chinese qualifier Shuai Zhang have both moved through in Beijing with victories in their opening round clashes.

14:02 CET - Qualifier Katie Volynets has come out on top in an all-American affair, triumphing 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 against Peyton Stearns to book her spot in the Beijing second round.

13:34 CET - Frances Tiafoe's torrid run of form shows no sign of coming to an end, with the American suffering a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 defeat to Marton Fucsovics in the opening round in Beijing. It is his fourth-straight loss, summing up the tough season he is enduring.

12:43 CET - Katie Boulter has battled to an opening-round 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 win against America's Hailey Baptiste.

12:26 CET - Two-time Grand Slam champion Barbora Krejcikova had very few issues in Beijing, swatting aside Anna Blinkova in a little over an hour, 6-2, 6-2. It is the first time she has ever reached the second round at this tournament!

Meanwhile, it was far more stressful for the younger of the Kudermetova sisters, Polina. The Russian was seriously pushed by world number 158 Maddison Inglis, but she eventually came out on top 7-5, 7-6(7).

11:45 CET - It looked like a hard match to call beforehand, and it proved to be just that as Maria Sakkari edges past Ashlyn Krueger in three sets in the opening round at Beijing.

Sakkari won a match of fine margins 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (5-7) to progress to the second round.

10:47 CET - The first big shock of the morning in Tokyo comes from Daniel Altmaier winning 7-5, 6-3 against seventh seed Denis Shapovalov in a dominant straight sets victory. 

10:10 CET - Eva Lys is the latest winner in Beijing as the German wasted no time in beating teenager Ruien Zhang 6-1, 6-0 in less than an hour.

09:00 CET - Meanwhile over in Tokyo, Nuno Borges is the second player through on day one of the tournament after a hard-fought 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win against home player Yosuke Watanuki.

08:50 CET - A couple more results are in from Beijing as Kamilla Rakhimova won in straight sets against Lucia Bronzetti, whilst Caty McNally has stunned Laura Siegemund 6-4, 6-2 to advance. 

Rakhimova will face world number three Coco Gauff in the second round, as McNally has a tough test of her own against world number 10 Elena Rybakina

07:30 CET - Good morning and welcome to our coverage of today's tennis as the Asian hard-court swing continues to roll on, with prestigious tournaments in Beijing and Tokyo getting underway!

There have already been a few notable results overnight, as McCartney Kessler downed home player Han Shi 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in Beijing, whilst Matteo Berrettini recorded his first win on tour since May with a dominant 6-4, 6-2 win against Jaume Munar.

Barbora Krejcikova begins her campaign at the WTA 1000 event in Beijing this morning against Anna Blinkova, while Denis Shapovalov and Frances Tiafoe will shortly take to the court in Tokyo.
