Clara Tauson fought her way out of trouble at the WTA tournament in Bad Holmburg as she staged a superb comeback against Poland's Magdalena Frech to book her ticket for the next round of the tournament through a scoreline of 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.

Clara Tauson opened the WTA 500 tournament in Bad Homburg, Germany, on Monday with a victory against Poland's Magdalena Frech.

The Dane lost the first set, but staged an impressive comeback to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 against Frech, who is ranked 25 in the world.

It was only the third victory of her career in the main round of a grass tournament for Tauson, who is ranked 23 in the world.

In the second round, Tauson will face the third-seeded Russian Mirra Andreeva, who had a bye in the first round of the tournament.

It will be their fourth meeting in 2025, and the 18-year-old Russian, who is ranked seventh in the world, has won on the first three occasions.

The first set of Tauson's opening match was extremely close, and not atypical for a grass match, as both players made very few mistakes in their own service games.

Both players were only able to carve out two break points and on that background it was hardly surprsing that the first set was decided in a tiebreak which Frech finally won 8-6.

However, Tauson managed to fight her way back in the second set where she produced a number of break points to win the set 6-3.

Tauson carried her momentum into the third set, where she took a 2-0 lead.

From there on, the Dane held serve even though Frech had chances to break back with the scoreline 4-2 in Tauson's favor.

Tauson finished the game off in style with a clean service game to set up the clash against Andreeva.
