The team will evaluate Seguin's season status following the 2026 Winter Olympics, a period from February 6th to February 24th in which the league will be put on pause to allow players to partake in the games for the first time since 2014.
Should the Stars put him on long-term injured reserve, they'll save $3.82 million against the cap. However, if Seguin's injury is confirmed to be season-ending, they'll save $9.85 million.
Seguin tore his ACL two weeks ago on December 2nd in a game against the New York Rangers. This will now be the second straight season that the 33-year-old will fail to play more than 30 games after he underwent hip surgery after 20 games last year.
Seguin played in his 1,000th career game back on October 30th in a 2-1 shootout loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He's put up seven goals and 10 assists this season.
After being drafted second overall in the 2010 NHL Draft, Seguin spent the first three seasons of his career with the Boston Bruins, with whom he won a Stanley Cup in 2011, before spending the next 13 with the Stars.
In his 16 years, Seguin has racked up 367 goals and 459 assists in 1,016 games.
