Kok won her first Olympic gold medal in the final race of the 500m - a titan battle against American Erin Jackson, the Olympic 500m champion from the 2022 Games. Kok had won every 500m race in the ISU World Cup this year, each by at least 0.26 seconds, while also breaking the world record in Salt Lake City in November.
Kok also broke the Olympic record with a time of 36.49, beating out second-placed Jutta Leerdam by an unbelievable margin of 0.66 seconds. Jackson, meanwhile, missed oun the podium.
Japanese great Miho Takagi - the silver medalist at the 500m in 2022 - was drawn early in the competition after not racing the 500m in a single World Cup, but set the third-fastest time in the fourth race with a 37.27, building on the back of a blistering 10.4s start - the ninth medal in her illustrious Olympic career.
1000m gold medallist Jutta Leerdam reset the tone in heat 12, going 37.15 to throw her name in the mix for another medal and winning silver behind Kok - switching places from the 1000m.
Speed skating history
With the gold medal, the Netherlands have now completed the Olympic speed skating bingo card in both the classic men's and women's events - the first country in the competition's history to achieve this.
The country had never won a medal better than bronze at the 500m, with Margot Boer finishing third in 2014.
