Mateus Fernandes is expected to leave West Ham this summer, or at least attract interest, regardless of whether the Hammers avoid relegation.

Nuno Espirito Santo's men have two games to overhaul a two-point deficit on Tottenham Hotspur and climb out of the drop zone.

West Ham travel to Newcastle United on Sunday before entertaining Leeds United on the final day. Relegation to the Championship could be confirmed by Tuesday if the Hammers lose to Newcastle and Tottenham beat Chelsea.

Nonetheless, dropping back into the second tier would result in a fire sale at the London Stadium, and midfielder Fernandes is one player they will sanction.

According to The Athletic, West Ham are "preparing for life" without the Portuguese maestro, and he will be sold to fund their summer recruitment, irrespective of what division they're in.

Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly among Fernandes' suitors, with Manchester United also showing an interest in his signature as they begin their midfield overhaul.

Fernandes has been magnificent since joining from Southampton last summer and has stepped up following the sale of Lucas Paqueta, with nine goal involvements in 40 matches this term.

The 21-year-old is widely regarded as one of the Premier League's best young talents, and if he has a strong World Cup with Portugal, his stock and valuation will skyrocket even further.
