Federico Valverde played most of Real Madrid's game against Liverpool on Tuesday in the Champions League but picked up a knock, and the club have yet to officially comment on his status.

"Yes, I don't know if it was something muscular or some movement I made that hurt. We'll see," said Valverde after playing 90 minutes at Anfield and even signalling to the bench that he might have to be substituted.

The match was played on Tuesday, so a medical statement was expected on Wednesday or, at the latest, Thursday, as was the case with the release announcing the injury that has pulled Aurelien Tchouameni out of the France squad.

However, as Flashscore learned from sources inside the club, the ultra-competitive nature of Valverde has stopped a confirmation that he will be out of the squad against Rayo Vallecano this weekend.

The information received indicates that, according to the medical criteria, the Uruguayan international should be out of action, given that he is very fatigued on a muscular level.

However, his characteristic determination has led the staff to wait until the last moment before ruling him out, given that Valverde is keen to please Xabi Alonso and show him that he is capable of playing absolutely every match.

So far this season, Valverde has only missed the Champions League game at home to Kairat Almaty.
