Ajax are reportedly preparing to bring back disgraced former director Marc Overmars as part of their search for a new technical director, Dutch media reported on Friday.

Overmars previously worked as Ajax's Director of Football between 2012 and 2022 and experienced great success with the Amsterdam giants. The former winger was an important part of the club's organisation and worked in a well-functioning tandem with Edwin van der Sar, who was the club's CEO during Overmars' time in Amsterdam.

His tenure in Amsterdam came to a crashing end, however, when Overmars was dismissed in February 2022 following a string of internal complaints about the executive's indecent behaviour. According to the victims, who were all female Ajax employees, Overmars sent them unwanted and unprompted explicit and nude pictures.

The indecent behaviour cost Overmars a one-year ban from world football in 2024, which was upheld after appeal.

Now, three years after Overmars was fired, Ajax have reportedly set their sights on a reunion with the former director as part of their search for a new technical director. Ajax fired manager John Heitinga on Thursday, and after making the decision, technical director Alex Kroes put his position up for availability, saying he felt responsible for the situation.

Insider Mounir Boualin reported on Friday that Ajax had yet to make contact, but that a third attempt to bring Overmars back is on the cards. Marc Overmars is currently the sporting director of Belgian Pro League outfit Royal Antwerp, whom he joined two months after getting fired at Ajax.

The move would be highly controversial, however, with some of Overmars' victims reportedly still employed at Ajax. Overmars' contract at Royal Antwerp expires in 2026.
