Eredivisie giants Ajax are reportedly entering the race for Morocco and Girona standout midfielder Azzedine Ounahi.

Ounahi, 26, played another eye-catching World Cup with Morocco, providing a constant threat from midfield and scoring twice in the Atlas Lions' 3-0 round-of-16 win over Canada.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Ajax are especially interested in Ounahi, who has a release clause worth €25 million in his Girona contract, which runs until 2030. Ajax, who are financially unable to pay the release clause, are negotiating a price with Girona, according to Romano.

Joining Ajax would see Ounahi reunite with former Girona manager Michel, who joined the Amsterdam giants in June. Ounahi would become the second former Girona player to join Ajax after Daley Blind, who joined his former club on a free transfer earlier in July.

Ounahi, a 55-time Moroccan international, joined Girona in the summer of 2025 after a two-year spell at Olympique Marseille, whom he joined after the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he helped Morocco become the first African nation to reach the semifinals in competition history.

Ounahi played 25 games for Girona, scoring 5 goals and assisting 2 as the Catalan club couldn't avoid relegation from LaLiga.
