The Bafana Bafana squad assembles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco on Monday, bar some overseas-based players who will join later on.

Most of the players were in action over the last week, with some trophy winners, goalscorers and even a sending off.

Here is how they fared for their teams.

Goalkeepers

Sipho Chaine (Orlando Pirates): Played the full 120 minutes in the 1-0 Carling Knockout final win against Marumo Gallants on Saturday and kept a clean sheet. Not that he had all that much to do on a quite evening.

Ricardo Goss (Siwelele): Played the full game against Mamelodi Sundowns last Wednesday as Siwelele draw 1-1 in the Betway Premiership.

Ronwen Williams (Mamelodi Sundowns): Played the full game in the 1-1 draw at Siwelele. Pulled off one exceptional save.

Defenders

Samukele Kabini (Molde, Norway): The season in Norway finished on November 30, so he did not have a game this week. Molde finished in 10th place.

Thabang Matuludi (Polokwane City): Played the full match in last Wednesday’s excellent 2-1 win at Stellenbosch FC

Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Orlando Pirates): Played the full game as captain in his final match for Pirates before he joins MLS side Chicago Fire after the Africa Cup of Nations. Was a solid display.

Aubrey Modiba (Mamelodi Sundowns): Came off after 59 minutes against Siwelele last week.

Khuliso Mudau (Mamelodi Sundowns): Came off at halftime against Siwelele after being replaced by Thapelo Morena, who has not made the Bafana Bafana AFCON squad.

Khulumani Ndamane (TS Galaxy): Played the full 90 minutes in Sunday’s 0-0 league draw with Kaizer Chiefs and helped them keep a clean sheet, though they had a fair share of the luck. Picked up his eighth booking in 13 league games this season, which is too high a number.

Siyabonga Ngezana (Steaua Bucharest, Romania): Came off at halftime of Saturday’s 0-0 home draw with Dinamo Bucharest in the local derby. Hopefully it was tactical and not an injury.

Nkosinathi Sibisi (Orlando Pirates): Came off the bench for the second half of extra-time having surprisingly not been handed a start, with Lebone Seema preferred ahead of him.

Tylon Smith (Queens Park Rangers, England): Scored for QPR’s development squad in the 7-3 victory over Cray Valley last Tuesday. He continues to find first team chances extremely limited.

Midfielders

Bathusi Aubaas (Mamelodi Sundowns): Did not feature for Sundowns against Siwelele and has in fact not played for them since November 1 against Pirates. Thatw ill be a worry for Bafana Bafana coach Broos.

Thalente Mbatha (Orlando Pirates): Came off after 83 minutes against Gallants after a solid enough display in a tight contest. Pirates did look to have the upper hand in midfield.

Teboho Mokoena (Mamelodi Sundowns): Was sent off for the first time in his career against Siwelele, though he will have a case to say it was a dubious decision. It was for a second bookable offence late in the game when he appeared to win the ball in a challenge, but referee Abongile Tom gave him his marching orders.

Sphephelo Sithole (Tondela, Portugal): Came off after 69 minutes of Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Portuguese giants FC Porto. Replaced by Hélder Tavares from Cape Verde.

Forwards

Oswin Appollis (Orlando Pirates): Cameo off after 100 minutes against Gallants and was named Man of the Match, which was a little generous in the award voted for by fans. Perhaps his recent good form played a part. He did not do anything wrong but was not all that effective. His has been superb this season though.

Shandre Campbell (Club Brugge, Belgium): Scored two goals for Club Brugge’s reserve side that plays in the country’s second-tier, with of them an absolute cracker. Not the level he wants to be, but he certainly showed good form.

Lyle Foster (Burnley, England): Started up front in the 2-1 loss at Newcastle United but was replaced at halftime by Joe Worrall.

Evidence Makgopa (Orlando Pirates): Led the line well enough against Gallants and was replaced on 64 minutes by Yanela Mbuthuma

Sipho Mbule (Orlando Pirates): Came off the bench after 83 minutes against Gallants having missed out on a start.

Relebohile Mofokeng (Orlando Pirates): Got the winning goal in the Carling Knockout final, though it did have a big slice of luck about it. He will say you have to be in the right place at the right time and he was. It feels like he is starting to find his form again after a fallow period.

Elias Mokwana (Al Hazem, Saudi Arabia): Al Hazem last played on November 21 so no action for Mokwana.

Tshepang Moremi (Orlando Pirates): Came on at halftime for Makhehlene Makhaula against Gallants in a change of shape for Pirates and was his usual busy self.

Mohau Nkota (Al Ettifaq, Saudi Arabia): Al Ettifaq last played on November 22 so no action for Nkota either.
