Pollard made the switch back to Pretoria from Leicester Tigers at the end of last season and should make his ‘second debut’ for the side in Northern Ireland after six years at Loftus Stadium in his first spell with the team.
Bulls captain Johan Grobbelaar is looking forward to having the double World Cup winner in the mix for what is a difficult away day.
“He’s one of the best flyhalves in the world,” Grobbelaar said. “His calmness on the field will make a massive difference. He’s been up north and knows the wet conditions, so that experience will be key.
“It’s great having him back, he brings composure, leadership and a lot of energy to the group.”
The Bulls have started their campaign with home wins over the Ospreys and defending champions Leinster, but Grobbelaar knows they face a new challenge on tour.
“We’ve never won here,” he said. “Ulster are a physical side with great ball-carriers and a strong maul. If we can stop their momentum, we’ll be in the mix.
“The first few years (in the URC) we didn’t travel well, but we’ve adapted to the conditions and schedule. If we can build on last season’s tour, we’ll be in a good position on the log.”
The Bulls have yet to really hit their straps despite the two wins so far, though it has not been for a lack of opportunities in the opposition 22.
“We’ve created a lot of opportunities, but we need to finish them. If we can tighten up on defence and be more clinical, we’ll give ourselves a good chance,” Grobbelaar said.
