The inaugural 'North v South' Nations Championship headlines the Wallabies' 2026 program, which will see the annual Rugby Championship take a one-year break.

Australia will host Ireland, France and Italy across Sydney, Brisbane and another home venue yet to be determined in the first three rounds of the new Nations Championship tournament before taking on the other three Six Nations teams - England, Scotland and Wales - in their annual November tour.

The Nations Championship will consist of two pools of six nations - six from the northern hemisphere and six from the southern hemisphere (with Japan included in the south) - with each team playing all six sides from their opposing hemisphere (three at home and three away) across two international windows in July and November.

The last weekend of November will then see a 'finals round' played exclusively at Twickenham Stadium in London, in which the first-placed teams from each hemisphere will play off for the title, whilst the second-placed sides will battle for third place, and so on for fifth, seventh, ninth and 11th.

That means the Wallabies will take part in seven Nations Championship matches - three on home soil in July and four in Europe and the UK in November - in addition to seven bilateral internationals inbetween.

Rugby Australia have also organised a home-and-away two-leg series with Japan in August, followed by a two-game tour of Argentina across August-September.

They will then host world champions South Africa for a one-off game in late September, following the All Blacks' historic full-length tour of the Rainbow Nation, before a two-leg Bledisloe Cup stoush with New Zealand in October.

Their third Nations Championship home game against Italy will be Joe Schmidt's final match in charge of the national team before he hands over to Les Kiss as per the Wallabies' long-organised succession plan.

The Wallabies occupy a special place in the hearts of Australian sports fans which was evident in the record attendances and huge broadcast audiences across the historic 2025 season," said Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh.

The 2026 program will be every bit as exciting with the Wallabies taking on the best of the Northern Hemisphere in the inaugural Nations Championship in addition to massive Flight Centre Series matches against our great SANZAAR rivals New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina as well as the strong Brave Blossoms from Japan.

“These matches will be critical as the Wallabies’ finalise their preparation for a truly remarkable 2027 campaign, which will include a full Flight Centre Rugby Championship and culminate in the first Rugby World Cup in Australia in 24 years.

The Wallabies sincerely appreciated the overwhelming support of the Australian public in 2025 and the Sea of Gold that turned out across all our stadiums. The whole squad is committed to working hard again in 2026 and beyond to put in performances the country can be proud of.
