Jonas Vingegaard virtually secured the victory in the Vuelta a Espana when he reached the summit of Bola del Mundo as winner of stage 20 of the 2025 Vuelta a Espana for Team Visma-Lease a Bike

Vingegaard rode away from the rest of his rivals, Jay Hindley, João Almeida, Tom Pidcock, and birthday boy Sepp Kuss, all the way to Bola del Mundo, to seal the first Red Jersey triumph of his illustrious career in style.

Vingegaard attacked on the steepest part of the climb and quickly opened up a gap of about 20 meters, which he extended in the final kilometer.

Almeida and Hindley led the chasers, but they were no match for the power of the superior Vingegaard, who practically secured his overall victory in the Vuelta in the most impressive way. To crown it all on a perfect day for Team Visma-Lease a Bike, Kuss finished second, ahead of Jay Hindley.

The 2025 Vuelta a España will conclude on Sunday with stage 21, which will be contested as a stage in Madrid.

Portugal's Almeida (UAE Team Emirates XRG) began the day 44 seconds behind the Dane but did not have the legs to challenge and trailed in fifth on the stage, 22 seconds behind Vingegaard, who holds a one minute 16 second lead going into Sunday's final stage to Madrid.
