Ingebrigtsen broke the world indoor mile record only five days after it had been broken by American Yared Nuguse. Nuguse ran 3:46.63 at the Millrose Games in New York on Saturday, but Ingebrigtsen improved that time Thursday night, clocking a time of 3:45.14 in Lievin, France.
Ingebrigtsen now owns both the indoor and outdoor (3:43.73) men's mile world all-time marks.
Ingebrigtsen also had gas left in the tank to take down the world indoor 1,500 metres record with a time of 3:29.63, almost a second better than his own 3:30.60 from the same event in 2022.
"It feels amazing," said the Ingebrigtsen after his first indoor mile race. "This is what happens in Lievin. I'm a very happy man. You have to be focused for the whole race. It's tough, but it's worth it."
Ingebrigtsen, who owns the Olympic 1500m and 5000m titles, also owns the fastest times in history in the outdoor 2000m (4:43.13) and 3000m (7:17.55).
