Kurtz, who recently joined Shohei Ohtani as the only two players in AL history to win a Silver Slugger for their rookie season, was chosen over teammate Jacob Wilson and Boston Red Sox's Roman Anthony, receiving all 30 first-place votes.
He is the first Athletics player to win Rookie of the Year since Andrew Bailey in 2009 and the first Athletics hitter since shortstop Bobby Crosby in 2004.
The 22-year-old finished the 2025 season hitting .290 at the plate with a stunning 1.002 OPS, 36 home runs, and 86 RBI in just 117 games.
Kurtz, aka "Big Amish", also put up one of the greatest hitting displays in baseball history back in July when he went 6-for-6 with four home runs against the Houston Astros - a moment some argue is the greatest piece of hitting in a single game ever.
Drake Baldwin
Baldwin won the award over Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Caleb Durbin and Chicago Cubs pitcher Cade Horton.
He received 21 first-place votes, while Durbin received the remaining nine.
Baldwin becomes the first catcher to win the award since Buster Posey in 2010 and the third Braves' player in the past eight years (Michael Harris II - 2022, Ronald Acuna Jr. - 2018).
The 24-year-old took up the mantle for Atlanta from Opening Day after starter Sean Murphy suffered cracked ribs during Spring Training.
Baldwin's 19 home runs were ranked eighth among all catchers. His 80 RBI ranked fourth among his position and first among all rookies. And he finished with a .274 batting average and a .810 OPS that ranked fourth-best at the position (120 games minimum).
