Iga Swiatek isn’t going through her best sporting moment and arrives at the Caja Mágica as the fourth-ranked player on the women’s tour.
Still, she’s landed in the Spanish capital with a positive attitude and will be aiming for her first title at this prestigious tournament.
The former world number one, who will enter the fray on Thursday, April 23rd, in the second round against the winner of the match between Daria Kasatkina and a qualifier, might have some free time to explore the city.
Flashscore asked her about this, wanting to know what the Polish star does in Madrid when she’s not playing tennis.
"I always do a little shopping, you know, but not just to big, fancy stores - more like typical Madrid stores," she explained.
"And good food: pulpo (octopus), gambas (prawns), croquettes... But not too (much) fat, obviously, so I need to balance that, and good coffee," she added.
"Actually, my friends came with me this year, so I’ll be sightseeing with them too, and, well, it’s always fun here, a lot of stuff to do," she concluded.
