On Thursday, Iga Swiatek introduced her new coach, confirming reports from L’Equipe that she will soon be working with 58-year-old Francisco Roig.

"Welcome to the team, Francisco! I’m really excited for this new chapter," wrote Swiatek in an Instagram story, posing with the Catalan doubles veteran and renowned coach.

L’Equipe had already reported on his expected appointment the day before, citing the early end of Roig’s collaboration with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard of France. The two had started working together less than a month earlier, but had already parted ways.

Roig is known for his technical and tactical approach, with a strong emphasis on on-court training. He gained recognition as a coach through his long-term partnership with Rafael Nadal.

He joined Nadal’s team in 2005, and they worked together until 2022, shortly before the Spaniard’s retirement. Roig has also advised Matteo Berrettini and Emma Raducanu in the past.

Before teaming up with the Catalan, Poland’s top tennis player had worked with Belgian Wim Fissette from October 17, 2024, until March 23 of this year, when she announced their split.

Although she managed to win Wimbledon for the first time, the overall result of their partnership - three titles - was disappointing.
