Ellidi Snær Vidarsson, captain of the Icelandic national handball team, has been heavily criticized after receiving red cards in two of the last three matches for Iceland.

Vidarsson played just over ten minutes when Iceland beat Cape Verde, 34-21, in his first match at the Handball World Cup, after seeing red for a brutal tackle.

He started on the bench but came on in the middle of the first half. However, his contribution for Iceland didn´t last long as he was sent off in the 27th minute for hitting Edmilson Araújo's face.

This was Vidarsson second red card in the last three games, as he was also sent off in the first friendly match against Sweden last week.

Einar Jónsson, coach of Fram Reykjavik in the Icelandic league now sends a stern message to the Icelandic captain.

"I have heard people say that he was unlucky but I don't see it that way. It's bad luck if you do it once, but when you do it again and again it's just bad. He is the captain of the Icelandic national handball team. We should expect more from him", says Einar Jónsson according to the Icelandic media Visir.

The Iceland handball legend Ásgeir Örn, also feels that Vidarsson should be blamed for his tackle during the match against Cape Verde.

"It was so pointless. It was stupid. Especially given that he needs games. I think he only managed one game with Gummersbach before the tournament started. There were friendlies where he would have had a chance to prepare himself for the tournament but when you do things like that you don't get a chance to be on the floor," said Ásgeir Örn.

Iceland will play their next game in the tournament on Saturday when they face Cuba.
