Finland opened their account in Zurich with a 3-1 victory over Germany 24 hours earlier, and now they sit clear at the top of the group thanks to the win over a Hungary team playing their first match at this year's tournament.
But the medal-contending Finns didn't have an easy afternoon against the unfancied Hungarians - in the first period, Finland had eight shots on goal to Hungary's five, but none caused real trouble for the goaltenders, as the Hungarians kept their discipline and didn't give away any powerplays.
However, the Leijonat began to dominate immediately after the second period got underway. Just 46 seconds were on the clock when Urho Vaakanainen helped the puck across to Ville Heinola, who cut in from the right and unleashed a wrist shot from the blue line that flew into the net.
Just two-and-a-half minutes later it was 2-0, as Aleksander Barkov weaved his way through the Hungarian defence, linking up well with Sakari Manninen before playing the puck across for Jesse Puljujarvi to finish from close range.
Less than four minutes later, Hungary were back in it when Istvan Terbocs held the puck up well in the corner before laying it back to Bence Horvath. He faked the shot from in front and instead put it on a plate for Balazs Sebok to tap in with the goaltender committed.
With four minutes left in the second, Finland crucially reestablished the two-goal cushion when Aatu Raty found Janne Kuokkanen, who was given far too much time and space to fire home from in front.
Needing a third-period comeback, Hungary worsened their chances when Roland Kiss finally received the first penalty of the night, and the Nordic side made it count soon after as Barkov's shot from distance was saved, but Puljujarvi pounced on the rebound to wrap up the 4-1 victory.
Hungary will have their second chance to get off the mark when they face neighbours Austria on Sunday 17th, while Finland will be looking for revenge on Monday 18th when they take on United States, the reigning champions who knocked them out in the Quarter-finals last year.
Canada thump Italy, wins for Austria and Slovakia
Finland are the only side in Group A to have played twice so far, and their nearest challengers to first place are Austria, who opened their account with a 5-2 victory over newly-promoted Great Britain. Peter Schneider scored twice as the Austrians netted four times before the midpoint.
In Group B in Fribourg, Canada have gone two from two, adding a comprehensive 6-0 win over Italy to their success over Sweden on the opening day. Macklin Celebrini led the way with two goals and one assist, while Cameron Talbot made the 19 saves required to earn a shutout.
Also, Slovakia got their campaign off to a winning start thanks to Marek Hrivik's goal just over eight minutes into the third period securing a 2-1 win over Norway.
