Bottom-of-the-table Leksand had real hope of extending the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) leaders' losing run to three matches, but Frolunda eventually secured victory late on, while second-placed Skelleftea ensured the gap didn't grow by beating Vaxjo.

Losses to Linkoping and Lulea meant Frolunda were on their worst run of the season, and while the alliteration continued with the arrival of Leksand, the leaders were desperate not to suffer another "L".

A Theodor Niederbach goal in the 15th minute would have settled the hosts' nerves, but not for long, as Gabriel Fortier equalised just over a minute later. Linus Weissbach restored the Frolunda lead early in the second period, only for Jon Knuts and Oskar Lang to turn things around by the seventh minute.

Back-to-back powerplay goals from Jere Innala either side of the midpoint put the home side back in front, but they could not shake off the side sitting bottom, as Andro Kaderli levelled matters again at 4-4 with just over five minutes left in the second.

But the key moment arrived in the 13th minute of period three, as Isac Heens teed up Innala to score his hattrick goal for the Gothenburg side. That forced Leksand to go for broke, but they were left exposed and Max Lindholm finally wrapped up a 6-4 win with an empty-netter in the last minute.

Leksand remain at the foot of the table, but the encouraging signs continue for the team 10 points from safety following two victories in their last four.

The win takes Frolunda to 80 points, but they are still nine clear as Skelleftea won for the fifth match in a row - the current longest winning run in the SHL - doing so in fine style with a 6-3 home win over fourth-placed Vaxjo.

Par Lindholm's 12th-minute goal was the only one of the opening period, but by the 12th minute of the second period, Skelleftea were crusing to three points after Max Krogdahl and Oliver Okuliar put them 3-0 ahead.

But two Vaxjo goals in 19 seconds of play to start the third period - from Karl Henriksson and Felix Robert - threatened an unlikely comeback, only for Lars Bryggman on the powerplay, Jonathan Pudas and Valter Lindberg to crush the Lakers' hopes with three unanswered strikes.

Ville Svensson added a late consolation for the visitors, who remain safely inside the top six despite three defeats in four to start 2026.

A late Linus Omark equaliser and an overtime winner from Anton Levtchi gave Lulea a 2-1 away win at Rogle, who remain third despite successive defeats. Lulea remain just outside the top six as Anton Heikkinen's penalty gave Timra a 2-1 success at HV 71 for their third win in a row.

HV remain seven points from safety after Linkoping also picked up a point for losing after a shootout, as Jakob Silfverberg struck the winning penalty for Brynas to seal a 4-3 win and keep his side in the final Playoff place.

Malmo remain in fifth place despite their four-match winning streak coming to an end at Orebro, who scored three times in the third period to win 4-2 and close the gap on Brynas to two points.

Plummeting down to ninth place are Farjestad, who lost a midtable battle with Djurgarden, 3-1, to seal a fifth defeat in a row. The Stockholm side are now a place higher, as they secured a victory in regulation time for the first time since November.
