The Winnipeg Jets kick off their Stanley Cup Playoffs on Saturday with a physical Game 1 win over the St. Louis Blues that saw a total of 86 hits!

The Jets and Blues both traded goals with many great saves alike from both teams' goaltenders in Jordan Binnington (Blues) and Connor Hellebuyck (Jets).

But in the end, with the roar of the iconic Winnipeg White Out, the Jets came away with the 5-3 win despite being outhit by the Blues 53-33.

First Period

The St. Louis Blues got on the board first with a power play goal by Robert Thomas.

But the Jets responded with a power play goal of their own when Mark Scheifele put one in net to tie it up 1-1.

Then, in just under a minute, the Jets poured another one on thanks to Jaret Anderson-Dolan.

Blues responded with a goal unintentionally assisted by Jets defenceman Gabriel Vilardi's skate, giving Oskar Sundqvist the perfect position for a shot in the top right corner to tie it up.

Going into the second period, the Blues led the Jets 32-14 in hits and 9-7 in shots, showing that they were going to put up the best fight possible.

The Blues headed into the second period with 1:42 left on a power play, which eventually led to their advantage.

2nd Period

After putting up nine shots in the first period, the Blues only put eight shots on net the rest of the game.

One of those came from Jordan Kyrou, who scored on the power play for the Blues just over a minute into the second period to give them the 3-2 lead.

After being outshot 9-7 in the first, the Jets came back outshooting the Blues (in total up to this point) 17-15 heading into the third period.

The Winnipeg Jets went on a power play but failed to tie it up in the second.

However, that didn't matter after what proved to be a much more eventful third period.

3rd period

The Jets started the third period on a power play but failed to convert after Binnington made a stellar save.

But the Blues failed to convert on a power play of their own prior to the Jets tying it up with 10:42 left to go, thanks to Alex Iafallo

From then on, it was all Jets on the scoreboard.

Kyle Connor ripped a laser from the short side with 1:36 left to give the Jets the 4-3 lead.

Adam Lowry's empty-netter with 51.9 seconds left was the final dagger that sealed the win for the Jets.

But with just 18 seconds left, tempers flared, and the game ended with multiple scrums before heading into the locker rooms.

Game 2 between the Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues is scheduled for Monday, April 21st.
