Florida Panthers 3-2 Los Angeles Kings
The Panthers rallied to top the visiting Los Angeles Kings 3-2 at home to make it three wins in a row. However, they found themselves behind with 6:21 left in the opening frame. Joel Armia, who was sent to the penalty box a few minutes earlier, capitalized on a power play situation for the Kings to put them ahead.
It took the hosts just two minutes and change in the second period to level the score. Anton Lundell found the back of the net with his side having a man advantage. Carter Verhaeghe then scored for the fifth time in his last seven to give Florida their first lead of the game.
From there, the home team seldom relinquished their lead, with Sam Bennett adding a third just 10 seconds after the second intermission. That goal proved pivotal, as it proved to be one too many for the Kings.
Kevin Fiala cut the deficit in half with 15:12 left in regulation. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, they could not tie things back up. Instead, they lost for the fourth game in a row as they dropped to seventh place in the Western Conference.
The Panthers are knocking on the door of a playoff berth with their sixth success in their last seven, and three on the spin. They host the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
Detroit Red Wings 1-4 Utah Mammoth
It was a key win for the Utah Mammoth on the road, where they topped the Detroit Red Wings 4-1. After a scoreless opening period, the away team got on the board. Clayton Keller got his team in front.
In what was a fairly even contest, where both teams had 40 shots, Utah doubled their lead later on in the frame. Jack McBain found the back of the net to put the Red Wings behind the eight ball.
Detroit did not score until midpoint of the third period, when Emmitt Finnie gave his team hope. Unfortunately for them, that was the closest they got to levelling the score.
Dylan Guenther and Kevin Stenlund scored 31 seconds apart in the final five minutes of the game to secure the win for the Mammoth, who picked up their third win in their last four. Despite the loss, the Red Wings remained third in the Eastern Conference, having conceded a whopping 115 times.
