Miller waived his no-trade clause to let the deal happen. The Rangers will also be receiving a pair of defensemen in Erik Brannstrom (25) and Jackson Dorrington (20).
"I felt like for a long time that there was a solution here because everybody has worked on it, including the parties involved," said Canucks President Jim Rutherford. "But it only gets resolved for a short period of time and then it festers again, and so it certainly appears like there's no good solution that would keep this group together."
"I'm proud of the guys they're capable of blocking a lot of noise out and just go out and play," said Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin. "We want to create an environment where they feel safe and trusted. The players have galvanized and played extremely well under the circumstances."
This deal comes after reports stated that Miller and teammate Elias Pettersson (26) weren't seeing eye-to-eye behind the scenes.
The 13-year veteran has spent the last five seasons with the Canucks and has put nine goals and 26 assists this year. He'll now be returning to the same Rangers franchise that drafted him 15th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft.
Miller spent five and half years with the Rangers before being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in February 2018, where he spent just one more season before signing.
Miller signed a seven-year, $56 million contract with Vancouver and won't be an unrestricted free agent until 2030. His contract has Miller making $9 million this year and again next year. Then his average annual salary will turn to $7 million.
Chytil and Mancini
Chytil has 11 goals and nine assists on the season and will provide the Canucks with some solid young blood. He's the former 19th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft and is two seasons removed from scoring 22 goals and racking up 23 assists for the Rangers.
Chytil missed almost the entirety of the 2023-2024 season due to a severe concussion after a collision with K'Andre Miller.
Mancini, on the other hand, made his NHL debut for the Rangers this year and has one goal and four assists in 15 games played. He was taken in the fifth round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Brannstrom and Dorrington
Brannstrom has three goals and five assists in 28 games played for the Canucks this season while Dorrington, a prospect out of the Canucks organization, currently has two goals and eight assists for Northwestern University.
