Danish international playmaker Mie Hojlund from Odense Handball has broken a bone in her lower leg and will consequently miss the upcoming World Championships set to be played in Germany and Holland from the end of November.

The national team player was injured and taken to the hospital after the match against EH Aalborg on Wednesday, and the verdict is now clear.

An examination has shown that Mie has broken a bone in her lower leg, which is why she will unfortunately not be able to play for a while. Based on the medical assessment, the club will now initiate a rehabilitation plan for Mie, so that she can return to the arena with all the time and peace necessary to recover as soon as possible", Odense Handball say on their website.

The World Championships take place from the end of November, and Hojlund will not make it, even if Odense Handball cannot say exactly when she will be back to full fitness.

"Unfortunately, we do not expect to see Mie in the arena again on this side of the new year", says Odense's managing director, Lasse Honoré, to TV 2 Sport.

Denmark open their World Championship campaign on 27 November in Rotterdam against Japan, and with the form Mie Hojlund has shown recently, she would, by all accounts, have played a big role in the final round.
