Actually, it was Skanderborg AGF that got off to the better start.
The national championship silver medalists approached the game with optimism, and with Fredrik Olsson playing well as playmaker, they held a slight edge for the first twenty minutes or so.
Aalborg lacked rhythm and pace in attack, and defensively, they simply weren't hitting their agile opponents hard enough.
That changed, however. The North Jutland side pushed their defense higher up the court and engaged in physical battles before the opposition could slice them open, and by halftime, the favorites were in the lead.
Aalborg faced a minor setback ten minutes into the second half when key player Thomas Arnoldsen received his third suspension, resulting in a red card. Yet, this didn't seem to cause any alarm.
Instead, Mads Hoxer really stepped up. Using immense physicality, he won one attacking duel after another, and Aalborg’s lead began to grow.
In the closing stages of the match, Skanderborg AGF appeared to be running out of steam, but a late surge allowed the East Jutland side to inject a bit of suspense into the game before Tobias Nielsen sealed the win with half a minute remaining.
