Beatrice Edwige, the 36-year-old French international key defender, says that she never anticipated a move to Denmark after she signed a new contract for Ikast.

The experienced Olympic -, World -, and European champion has joined Ikast as a free agent after her contract with the Hungarian club FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria expired, and her services was needed to fill in a gap after a couple of key Ikast line players (Karen Klokker end Ane Hoegseth) sustained injuries.

Beatrice Edwige has already played in the IBF Arena when Ikast faced FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria in the 2023/24 Champions League season.

Edwige, who has no less than 153 international matches for France to her name, could hardly believe it when she was approached by the Danish club.

"To be honest, I thought it was a joke when I was called by Ikast as I didn't think Ikast needed a new player. So I didn't know why they called, but afterwards I could understand that they had two injured line players", she says to TV2 Sport.

Her time in Denmark will, according to Edwige be her last as a professional handball player.

"I am looking forward to becoming part of the team and the club and experiencing the atmosphere and the fans at home. I am looking forward to being able to help the team and I will give my maximum to help, as I have always done in my game. A new adventure in a new country begins for me and I cannot wait. See you soon."
