"Where, please? Yes, you read that right! Herning is located in the middle of Midtjylland, one of Denmark's five regions. The city is surrounded by smaller towns, and extensive shrubland habitats. A handball capital in the middle of nowhere that has even been made fun of on Danish television. In 2009, the comedy series “Where the f... is Herning?” became a TV hit in Denmark", writes "Bild".
In Denmark, Herning is known as a textile town and for its trade fairs, conferences, culture, and concerts. It is home to Denmark’s largest indoor arena, Jyske Bank Boxen, which will act as the magnificent setting during the EHF EURO 2026 with 15,000 spectators.
Thomas Schöneich, media director at the European Handball Federation (EHF), says to BILD: “Herning and the Jyske Bank Boxes is for Denmark what Lanxess Arena and Cologne are for the Germans: Handball simply works there.” Around the event, fans, families, and especially children have many opportunities to come into contact with handball."
"It's also no secret that the infrastructure for a major tournament like the European Championship, with up to eight teams and foreign fans on site, is a challenge in Herning. And there is no question that a capital like Copenhagen has greater appeal and is more attractive, especially for away fans."
