There has been bad news for the Dallas Mavericks, who while losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves (105-99) on Christmas Day in the NBA, lost one of their star players - Luka Doncic (25) - to injury.

Doncic, who came into the game injured, had to leave the game with 02:31 left in the second quarter.

The Slovenian is reportedly suffering from a muscle strain in his left calf. ESPN reported that he could be out "for a prolonged period of time," although we have to wait for an MRI scan on Thursday.

The former Madrid player left the American Airlines Center on crutches, according to the same media outlet.

Kyrie Irving's assessment of his injury: "I pray for Luka's speedy recovery. However long it takes, we're going to have to adjust. It's the nature of the business. Hopefully, he'll take his time and come back when he's ready."

As for coach Jason Kidd, he added: "We hope this is his last injury, and we hope it's not too serious."
