The Seattle Mariners acquired third baseman Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks in a trade on Wednesday.

In return, the Diamondbacks received SEA No. 9 prospect Tyler Locklear (1B), No. 16 prospect Hunter Cranton (P), and No. 17 prospect Juan Burgos (P).

Suarez was the start bat of the deadline and now he's heading up to Seattle. The All-Star third baseman is slashing .248/.320/.576 on the year with the fifth most home runs (36) in all of baseball with 87 RBI.

Suarez is in the final year of his seven-year deal and will be an unrestricted free agent after the end of the season.

Seattle (57-51), who is already fifth in the league in team home runs (151), will look to start putting up a lot more runs on the board as they sit just 4.5 games back of the Houston Astros for the top spot in the American League West division.

Suarez reunites with his old team, whom he played for during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

D'Backs Returns

Locklear is a great return piece as he's slashing an impressive .316/.401/.542 with 19 home runs, 82 RBI, and 18 stolen bases through 98 games in Triple-A this season. The former second-round pick out of Maryland could be called up very soon as the 24-year-old continues to tear it up.

Cranton is also having a fantastic season on the mound, posting a phenomenal 0.90 ERA in 10 games this season (High-A / Double-A) with opponents hitting .152 off of him. The 24-year-old righty missed time this season after suffering a concussion during spring training when a line drive beamed him on the head.

Burgos pitched in four games for the Mariners this season, giving up three runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings of relief. But the 25-year-old has primarily spent most of his time in Double-A and Triple-A, where he's thrown a combined 0.87 ERA in 25 total games, giving up just 14 hits in 31 innings while striking out 31 and walking nine.
