Thanks to overwhelming support from a partisan crowd in Changzhou, Wang Zhengxing managed to pull off a big surprise when he beat the Danish favorite Antonsen 21-18, 21-15 in the semi-final of the China Open.

Anders Antonsen was seeded two in the tournament and went into the semi-final as the favorite, but he had never faced the Chinese youngster earlier in his career. Possibly for that reason, the Dane was caught off guard by Zhengxing's strong attack.

Wang Zhengxing took advantage of the strong support from the home crowd to gain momentum in the first set. Halfway through, Zhengxing led 11-8 and then 15-11, before Anders Antonsen briefly caught up.

Winning six successive points, the Dane took over the lead, but then stalled again as Zhengxing claimed the first set to put Antonsen under pressure.

Every single Chinese point was met with huge celebrations in Changzhou as the crowd roared Zhengxing on at every opportunity.

Antonsen has plenty of expertise playing against a partisan crowd, but on Saturday, he could not keep up with Zhengxing, who quickly took over both the lead and control of the match in the second set.

At the net, Zhengxing had all the margins and at the same time brutally punished all mistakes from Antonsen.

It triggered five match points, and Zhengxing converted the first one to guarantee his place in the final against his countryman Shi Yu Qi. All other Danes have been knocked out of the tournament in Changzhou.
