The partnership aims to develop players, managers, and coaches in Indonesia in line with the Ajax philosophy.
PSSI chairman Erick Thohir has shared his delight at starting this partnership with the Dutch giants.
"Football is the most popular sport in Indonesia, but we must acknowledge that we still face challenges in our youth development system. We want to keep learning from this and adapt the successful system in the Netherlands," he said in an opening statement.
"We are therefore proud of this partnership with Ajax, a leading club with a tried-and-tested development philosophy and a special historical connection with Indonesia. Thanks to Ajax’s knowledge and experience, we can take a significant step towards improving the quality of coaches and football talent in Indonesia.”
The partnership follows months after Jordi Cruyff was appointed as Ajax's technical director. Since early 2025, Cruyff has also served as a technical advisor to the PSSI. Ajax allowed him to keep that job in hopes of finding Indonesian talent early, according to Dutch newspaper Trouw.
Ajax CEO Menno Geelen emphasised Ajax's role as a talent developer on the global stage and said the partnership resulted from years of discussions.
"We want to maintain our position as one of the world’s leading talent development organisations and share our expertise in relevant markets," Geelen said before praising Indonesia as a football country.
"Indonesia is one such market: large, with tremendous potential and a huge passion for football. We have been in contact for a number of years and are proud to be able to build on our relationship with Indonesian football and contribute to the further development of the sport in the country."
Ajax hold several partnerships with clubs worldwide, including Gamba Osaka (Japan), Pachuca (Mexico), LASK Linz (Austria), and Como 1907 (Italy).
